June 25, 2026NJBA CEO Jeff Kolakowski Joins Governor Sherrill at Housing Supply Announcement
NJBA CEO Jeff Kolakowski joined Governor Mikie Sherrill, Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Jacquelyn Suarez, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency Executive Director Melanie Walter, and housing stakeholders on June 24 for a major housing affordability announcement highlighting new efforts to expand housing opportunities throughout New Jersey.
Held under the banner “Building Homes. Lowering Costs.” the event highlighted the Administration’s ongoing efforts to address New Jersey’s housing shortage through a coordinated strategy focused on increasing housing production, improving affordability, and expanding opportunities for residents across the state.

During the event, Governor Sherrill announced the launch of the second cohort of the New Jersey Housing Opportunities for Municipal Equity and Success (NJ HOMES) initiative, which will provide technical assistance and planning support to municipalities seeking to increase housing production. The Administration also announced that the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency successfully raised nearly $35 million through its Affordable Housing Tax Credit auction to support affordable and workforce housing development across the state.
As part of the announcement, the Governor’s Administration included NJBA among a select group of organizations quoted in the official press release, recognizing the Association’s ongoing advocacy for policies that expand housing opportunities and address New Jersey’s housing shortage.
Kolakowski praised the Administration’s continued focus on addressing housing affordability through a statewide, whole-of-government approach.
“Housing is a statewide issue that affects New Jersey’s economy, workforce, infrastructure, affordability, and quality of life,” said Kolakowski. “We are encouraged that Governor Sherrill has recognized that reality and continues to approach housing through a statewide lens and a coordinated, whole-of-government strategy.”

The announcement builds upon Executive Order 17 and the Administration’s ongoing efforts to improve permitting, coordinate state agencies, support municipalities, and accelerate housing production throughout New Jersey. Through initiatives such as NJ HOMES, the Housing Governing Council, and other housing-focused reforms, the Administration has made expanding housing opportunities a central priority.
NJBA has consistently advocated that increasing housing supply is essential to improving affordability, supporting workforce growth, strengthening New Jersey’s economy, and ensuring future generations can continue to live and work in the Garden State. The Association looks forward to continuing its work with the Governor’s Office, DCA, NJHMFA, local governments, and industry stakeholders to advance practical solutions that increase housing production and expand housing opportunities for New Jersey residents.
